Helga Himer Newborn Photography Workshop European Tour (Newborn Photography Workshops)

“I would recommend Helga Himer Photography Workshops to every photographer wanting to learn ins and outs of newborn photography…Thank you so much for being so gracious and sharing your knowledge with those of us who wishes to learn newborn photography.” – Roberta from Robba Photography

At the end of May, I embarked on what I knew would be an unforgettable trip. I traveled overseas for my first Newborn Photography Workshop European Tour. I had the absolute honor to work with 25 photographers over the course of a week, and am happy to now call them all my friends. I am still on the high from my experiences in Europe, and am so excited to share some of the highlights with you!

I am was born and raised in Hungary before moving to Canada 15 years ago, so I was thrilled to spend the first 3 weeks of my trip in my hometown with my parents and my two children. We were able to spend quality time together, and then my parents were able to get alone time with my children as I set off on my Workshop Tour. I started my tour in Budapest, Hungary at Childlike Smile Photography‘s studio. Over the course of two days, my 12 students were able to watch and learn from 6 newborn models. Newborn photography is an up and coming trend in Hungary, and, as such, there are not many in-person workshops available. I was thrilled to be able to offer my knowledge to fellow photographers in my home country.

We were able to get through so many poses, including more advanced poses such as the froggy pose and hanging pose. This allowed me to demonstrate and stress the importance of doing these poses safely and as composites. After the first day of the workshop, a few of us went out to dinner, where we were able to chat more about photography and our personal lives as well. It was truly wonderful to bond with fellow photographers in my home country. On the second day of the workshop, we worked with a couple of families so that we could work on posing and flow for family setups. We also were able to work on editing, and I introduced birth photography to them through some of my gallery videos. I could see that they were moved by the images, and I hope that they will start to open their clients’ minds to the beauty of birth photography.

After saying goodbye to my Budapest attendees, I started on my way to Scotland. I was full of excitement as I traveled because I have never been to the UK. I had a day off the following day so I explored Edinburgh by foot, taking in the beautiful scenery and landscape, and, of course, the castles.

My Edinburgh Workshop was over the course of two days with 5 students, 5 newborn models and 1 maternity model. Beautiful Bairns was our gracious host. The first day we were able to get through 3 newborn models, and captured some lovely images. The second day we had 2 more newborn models, plus a maternity model with a toddler. I had so hoped we would be able to get outside to take advantage of the beautiful Scottish fields, but being Scotland, the weather is quite unpredictable and it poured all the day the second day. Regardless, my Scottish students were so eager to learn and I was able to share so much with them over the course of those two days. I will most certainly be returning to Scotland in the future as I loved it so much!

My final workshop was in London. I spent my first day in London catching up with one of my high school friends, which was so wonderful. I also met up with Linda from Linda Balog Photography, who helped me organize this workshop. It was so exciting to meet Linda in person after so much time as friends across the internet. The following day was the workshop with 8 attendees and 4 newborn models. I also invited Emilia from Handmadebylululu sewing my passion to be the guest vendor. Emilia is one of my favorite vendors, so I was thrilled to be able to spend some time with her! Her pieces are simply amazing, and she surprised me with a gorgeous felted nest!! Of the 4 newborn models in London, 2 were amazing sleepers, and 2 were not. This was a great learning experience for the attendees to see how to work with different types of babies! We really had a lovely time together!

The day after the London Workshop, I was able to take a quick tour of London before heading back to Hungary, and my own babies. We spent 4 more days with my parents, and then we made the long trek back to Canada. After so long from home, and my husband, it was nice to be back home!

Newborn photography is my passion, but through this experience I have discovered another passion, and that is teaching. I truly loved showing these ladies my tricks and tips, going through my workflow step by step. We have a secret Facebook group where the learning, and sharing, will continue. I am so excited to watch these ladies grow, and am truly honored that 25 people wanted to learn from me! I am already starting to plan an even grander Helga Himer Newborn Photography Workshop European Tour, so stay tuned!

For now, please enjoy some of my favorite images from the Workshop Tour!
